Iran, Turkey have similar film styles: Turkish filmmaker

A Turkish filmmaker draws parallels between Iranian and Turkish Cinemas.

A Turkish filmmaker at the 35th Fajr International Film Festival (FIFF) draws parallels between Iranian and Turkish Cinemas.

Alin Tasciyan, the Turkish president of International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI), said during the sidelines of the FIFF in the Iranian capital city of Tehran that both Iranian and Turkish Cinemas are based on realism and sometimes hyperrealism.

“Yes… the documentary like treatment of the subject in the cinema, they prefer to use real places, natural lighting, less music or no music at all, it depends. And then the drama in these films are very powerful but we always try not to overdo it,” she highlighted of the two respective Cinemas.

Tasciyan has been a critic and columnist for the Star daily newspaper, making her first visit the Iranian Fajr festival this year.

“I have already been able to easily connect with the [Fajr] Film Market and immediately begin to watch films and it’s incredible. Of course, it’s been held for years but this is my first experience. It seems so well-organized and at the first glance everything looks great,” she elaborated.

The 35th Fajr International Film Festival is hosting some 177 filmmakers, directors, and producers, representing 92 Iranian and international film companies and distribution networks

This year’s event takes place in Tehran from April 21-28.
